December 23 to March 24 Outreachy round: Introduce yourselves here!

This thread is for all the mentors and applicants to introduce themselves and only that. If you have any questions/suggestions, do feel free to create a new topic for that.

Hi all! My name’s Fay, pronouns she/her, EST, US. I am a self-taught dev dabbling in various areas but trying to focus in on embedded systems and cyber security.

I have been programming for around two years, starting with Rust and Clojure, and have co-authored a creative coding framework, as well as CLI tools and embedded music devices on my own. I am currently working on a custom Lisp dialect for music composition that I hope to turn into both a native app and an embedded device.

Super excited to learn more about Suricata and cyber security and hopefully have some fun writing some Rust code

Hi everyone,
I am Behroz Karim, a recent computer science graduate from Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan. I am currently living in Pakistan :pakistan: as well. Over the past eight months, I have had the privilege of working as a software engineer, gaining invaluable experience that has deepened my passion for open-source contributions.

The world of open source has always intrigued me, and I have a personal connection to it as well. In one of the startups, we were actively developing products with the intention of eventually open-sourcing them. One such product, which you can find more about at nozl.dev, remains close to my heart. We were building this product on top of Nats which itself is an open-source project. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to leave the startup, and the dream of open-sourcing the product is still a work in progress.

Outreachy, to me, is the ideal platform to merge my passion for open source with the opportunity to learn and grow under the mentorship of experienced professionals in the field.

A fun fact about me is that besides knowing some programming languages, I know some natural languages as well. I’m fluent in Urdu, Balochi, Punjabi, Hindi, and Saraiki languages and I can understand some basic Arabic(Traditional) and Persian as well. Would love to meet someone who knows any of these languages.

Hi everyone, this is maitreya.
Pronouns: he/they
Timezone: UTC + 5.30 (India)

I’m a 30-something researcher and writer from India. I’ve dreamed of honing my programming skills and applying to Outreachy for a few years, and I’m really glad I’ve gotten this far this year.

I’ve been interested in open-source for more than 10 years, when I worked with a tech-activism nonprofit that helped me understand the value of open-source public goods. I remember doing some Drupal/Joomla migration stuff there and generally being fascinated!

I’m also really interested in security, which is why I’m keen to contribute to this project. Of late, I’ve been sharpening my Python skills, taking some basic courses in cybersecurity, and preparing to contribute to Outreachy projects!
